Tutoring review by Luke in Berlin, NJ
Today we covered vector arithmetic and polar coordinate algebra, as well as some special situations with graphs, roots, and exponentiation in the context of complex numbers. I'll send him extra material on all of these subjects. We also covered introductory trigonometry, including several basic aspects of the unit circle and the triangles that generate sine and cosine values. I introduced him to the concept of tau = 2 * pi, which helps generate the radian measurements of the unit circle more naturally (and, he may discover later, has some interesting effects in many physics equations - I'll send him a video on this, of course). He seemed to find it interesting and potentially useful. I also discussed a significant point of philosophy in this process. Giving credit to John Taylor Gatto for the source of my paraphrase, I mentioned that there is a common misconception that the Internet has trivialized the importance of human memory. I explained that you cannot think about anything that isn't currently in your mind. If you can't hold a thought in your mind, you can't apply that thought to your overall intelligence. I pointed out the uselessness of the Internet to an infant. We continued moving through the entirety of unit 14.

We covered the first exam questions The student was given to more clearly identify the areas of concern. These included the relationships between price, demand, utility, and equilibrium. It appears the professor is interested in theoretical issues so memorizing definitions may be important. We reviewed the notes and text to solidify understanding of curves and graphs, as well as the concept of line slope.

Tutoring review by Carolyn in Berlin, NJ
Today's session was focused on beginning to prepare the student for his upcoming test on public opinion and political action in the United States. Together, we began to go over his study guide, where I checked for comprehension, answered his questions, and provided additional explanation and examples. We covered a variety of topics, including the unique nature (and the reasons behind it) of US political socialization, the consequences of the generation gap that developed out of the youth rebellion in the 1960s and 1970s, the current trend of population movement into the South and West, and the socioeconomic problems posed by declining fertility rates and the increased elderly population. We agreed to meet tomorrow to continue studying.
