Tutoring review by Angi in Missouri
Although pretty good in conversation, the student has had no formal training, but I determined that my materials fit her perfectly. We did view some PowerPoints on basic grammar to set the foundation and we'll work from there. I found the vocabulary online to be too difficult for her at this time, so the inclusion and comprehensive method that I designed is what we plan to use. I left her with the notes and verb conjugations that we learned and practiced for her to incorporate them in her daily conversation and even try to form some sentences using them. I also had her try some other online exercises and she did great. It seemed to be the boost of confidence she needed.

The student and I went over her review for her test tomorrow. We used coordinates and the slope to find equations that needed to be written in slope-intercept, point-slope, or standard form. She was able to work this through.

The student and I went over his reading packet today. We read his short story together, and then we worked through all the problems and questions in the packet related to the story, answering them all in detail and using full sentences. We managed to also fit in a practice test for his spelling words, as well as go over the definitions of his 5 reading words. He has logged in 20 minutes of reading every day of the week so far, which is great! I told him to keep it up.

The student had the second part of her semester exam to study for and had mostly finished working on the review herself. I went through problem by problem checking her work and reminding her of some old concepts she had forgotten about. She had most of the problems correct but did need a few corrections. I also answered questions she thought of along the way.

Today I started uniform circular motion with the student. We covered how to apply the ABCs of force problems to situations where the object is moving at constant speed in a circle. In particular, we started vertical circles and analyzed a few interesting scenarios that can arise on rollercoasters as the speed of the object changes. I left the student with an AP question from 1995 to complete, which we will go over at the start of our next session

Today, the student learned some new vocabulary about Thanksgiving! She learned the French words for turkey, gravy, pilgrims, Native Americans, etc. Some songs we sang today included a review of colors and "la famille." We also watched an episode of Le Petit Nicolas. The student is as sweet as ever, and she is really becoming more patient with learning French overall!
