Tutoring review by Kathleen in Chatham, NJ
We continued to work on solving different types of linear equations. The student asked for types of linear equations from the last season to review. She continues to excel on solving equations for the unknown variable. Her confidence is beaming as she continues to solve equations on her own. I left some equations for her to work on her own until the our next session.

The student is studying for his Geometry final. During the last session we had just started the "final review" exercise. It was very long, so I told him to attempt it on his own. When we started the session today we went over the very few problems that he did not get correct. We are going back through each chapter review and chapter test and writing cheat sheets for the chapters. He did very well outlining the first two chapters.

We worked on the student's argumentative paper, which broke down the basics. We spent time finding evidence and reading the story that the teacher had assigned. Today, the big step forward that he took was the counterargument in an essay. He handled that very well, and I think his writing has improved over the sessions that we have done. We also did some math at the end to ensure all homework was completed and ready to turn in.

The student and I covered sketching graphs of trig functions using exact values, finding amplitude, phase, and stretch of these functions. We also briefly discussed inverse trig functions. (She had a bit of a 'lightbulb moment' when verbalizing a question about the inverse tangent of negative one.) This is where we will pick up in our next session. She had a great attitude and seems to enjoy learning the material! We decided to go over review questions for her upcoming quiz in a few days.

Today, we covered several problems involving definite and indefinite integrals. The types of integrals included powers, exponentials, logs, trigs, hyperbolics, and rational. Strategies usually involved breaking up the integrand into easily integrable pieces. The student is doing well and is current with the topic.

Tutoring review by Connor in Chatham, NJ
Today, we covered domain. The student did not have an understanding of the meaning of domain; she only knew how to find it. We covered the meaning of domain and how to apply that concept to problems; we talked about how to tell the difference between a removed point and an asymptote, and that it doesn't actually affect the domain, but it's useful for graphing. She had no problem finding the values for x that are not a part of the domain; the problem was in converting those numbers to interval notation so it could be written down as an answer. Though it wasn't a part of her homework, we covered square roots and how to deal with them in a domain sense and the inequality that it sets up. We concluded our session working on simplifying expressions and how to evaluate the value of a function in an inequality by using a number line.
