Tutoring review by Julia in Brighton, CO
The student and I went back through all of her knowledge checks and spent time sampling and solving all types of problems she has come across so far this year. The beginning two chapters really set her up to be able to do the following chapters (this was basic review). We spent a significant portion of the session going over mixture and distance problems and how to set them up. We actually went back through that particular chapter and did all of the kinds of problems assigned so that she would remember and feel comfortable solving on her mid-term exam.

Tutoring review by Jaime in Brighton, CO
Tonight we worked on an exam review packet and completed 14 problems that focused on the student's Chapter 6 and Chapter 7 material. These questions focused on the relationship between exponential expressions and how to write them in logarithm form. Additionally, we worked solving for such variables involved within the equation. We also discussed topics such as exponential decay, y-intercepts, graph transformations, and finding the inverse of equations. The student seemed receptive to the information I was sharing with her and took good notes. Throughout the session, we discussed different tips to use when taking a multiple choice mathematics exam. We ended the session without fully completing the last two problems of her Chapter 7 review, so she can work on those before our next session.

Tutoring review by Kasra in Brighton, CO
In today's session with the student, we worked on reviewing word problems for the second half of his chapter test tomorrow and finished off by starting his final exam review. He came to me with some questions he had about the first half of his exam and needed clarification on specific axioms and little caveats in vertical motion word problems. That being said, he told me it was the easiest exam he has every taken! I was very confident in his preparation for this exam, and I am glad he feels the same way. He finished nearly all of the exam and just has a few word problems to focus on tomorrow. So, after answering his questions, we moved to practice a couple of the toughest vertical motion problems at the end of the chapter, and he completed them without a hitch. Afterwards, we started on his final exam studying by going through the chapter 1-6 review test and noting topics that he has forgotten or still struggles with. Overall, he has retained much of the knowledge of these chapters and only needs to slightly review the algebra axioms and how to compute absolute values. For extra practice, I suggested he complete this review test and go back to the chapters covering axioms and absolute values to get some more practice. All in all, he is finishing this year very strongly, and I look forward to hearing how the rest of the test goes tomorrow!

Tutoring review by Mehreen in Brighton, CO
After reviewing the student's most recent quiz, it became apparent she was having the most trouble with 10.6. This is a section we have reviewed multiple times in past sessions and a section that I have assigned homework on, requesting that she notify me if she has any confusion. When reviewing 10.6 today, it seemed as if she was not grasping the entire section. We went very in-depth with 10.6 and I reassigned different homework problems regarding that and other sections (10.1-10.5 will be covered in her upcoming test) We constructed a chart for the concepts in 10.6 and I had her write down her strategy for each type of problem in 10.6 along with examples. The homework I assigned the student was to review her past tests and quizzes and choose problems she did correctly and incorrectly and rework them on a separate paper (identifying the formula used, writing the equation and solving.) She was asked to do this for every section of chapter 10.

We continued to cover proofs and using geometric theorems and postulates to solve problems. The student is very meticulous when it comes to making sure her work is presented perfectly.

Tutoring review by Emin in Brighton, CO
The student has moved on from what she was doing before (drawing lines, angles, shapes, and other constructions using a compass and straightedge) to learning about transformations of shapes on graphs. These transformations include translation, rotation, dilation, and reflection. She seems to me to be a visually oriented person, and she had no trouble at all with understanding these transformations, how to apply them, and the newly transformed coordinates of original points and shapes. I saw her through three assignment (with only a couple of hints as input from me), each of which saw her earn 100%. I am confident that she will continue to excel in this subject.
