Tutoring review by Monica in University Place, WA
We went over geometric and arithmetic series and infinite geometric series. The student is doing pretty well in these, it's just a matter of taking the problems one step at a time and not rushing through the arithmetic. We also went over an quiz he took today and part of his homework. We worked on some strategies for identifying series and how to pick which equation to use in which situation.

I helped the student prep for her finals next week. We have one more session to continue to prep her. I am sure she will do fine on the finals.

I went over the volume of solids of revolution with the student, going over the disk, washer, and shell methods. I worked several problems with him, and he has a good understanding of how to work these problems.

Tutoring review by Ben in University Place, WA
The student got 29/60 correct on her math test homework. A few of her errors stemmed from questions when interpreting a geometric figure described by a word problem; she found that she could better understand what was going on in the problem through a combination of close reading and drawing a diagram. Most other errors came from calculator mistakes (forgetting to put expressions in parentheses) or hesitation when confronted with a new symbol or term. I'm continuing to encourage her to scrutinize the answer choices and at least narrow her options down based on what she knows the answer isn't. She is still doing great with ratios. I think she went into this test a little over confident and this may be what caused her to answer some questions incorrectly early on - after that she was more or less consistent, but missed a good 10-15 in a row at the end. She'll need to read more closely, eliminate choices wisely, and pace herself better. She began a new reading section but I thought it best for her to finish this for homework along with the same test's science section so we can review these next week.

Tutoring review by Matjaz in University Place, WA
Today we covered the remaining topics in functions, including when a relation is a function and when two functions are equal. The students have performed well on this week's quiz and are eagerly contributing in the lessons. The other main emphasis today was to understand the meaning of the function, and what "plugging a value in" means. We have distinguished between the argument, the input, the output, the recipe, the name, the range and the domain of the function.

Tutoring review by Brendan in University Place, WA
This was our first session. The student and I talked about the sequence of tenses, reviewed that Latin syntax is based on endings and not word order, and discussed the function of different pronouns (with an example from the Daphne and Apollo story). I also pointed out that pronouns follow some patterns that normal nouns do in their endings, and have some of their own unique patterns. He has since organized his Latin material into an accordion file. He was very enthusiastic and receptive to everything I said - he told me that just seeing me read through a Latin passage reignited his interest in the language.
