Tutoring review by Michael in Big Stone Gap, VA
Today was a review for her upcoming Calculus final next Friday, so we went through a review sheet with an assortment of questions from throughout the semester. This sheet covered basic differentiation, differential equation solutions, related rates of change, antidifferentiation, and integration. The student moved through this material very well, and seemed at ease with it. She should continue to review the theorems from the differentiation portion.

The student went over his assignments with me - a history assignment on the slave trade, the construction of a periscope for Geometry; a dialogue to memorize from Cervantes' "Don Quixote" for Spanish; and a quiz on Shakespearean language used in "Macbeth."

We specifically went over the template for performing a hypothesis test. The student was able to understand the template, but has a hard time staying focused while deducing information from the problem. To help her with this problem, I showed her how to take notes while reading the question. As a result, she was able to perform better on these types of problems. After the session, I left her with some more practice problems at home. Overall, the session was excellent.

We took most of today's session to work on the student's chemistry state assessment. It was a last minute session because the next day was his exam and he wanted to review as much as possible. We finished a practice exam and he seemed to be very prepared. In addition to what he already knew, we spent a portion of the session on voltaic cells. This was the only topic that he had trouble with. Fortunately, after a quick review, he was very confident in that section. There was nothing to leave as an assignment because it was a one time session. Tomorrow we will continue with his SAT preparation.

Tutoring review by Bill in Big Stone Gap, VA
The student and I covered topics from his test and/or quiz including but not limited to: finding the correct solution to a system of inequalities when given the two inequalities, selecting the correct system of inequalities when given the graph of the system of inequalities, and a few true/false questions. Toward the end of the session, the system of inequalities grew from two to three inequalities for the problems. The student was very cooperative throughout the session. He is improving at eliminating the incorrect answers in multiple choice questions as well as inputting the correct variables into the functions to check for the correct answer. He made a few mistakes with algebraic operations such as operations with unlike signs, but nothing serious. I think he will do fine.

We spent this lesson working on the student's "Cereal Box" book report. We read the last two chapters together, each of us taking turns reading a page. The last half of the lesson we worked on writing a short summary of the book. We concluded the lesson by discussing the drawings he will put on his cereal box, and he had some great ideas. I'm looking forward to hearing how the project turns out.
