What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is to efficiently engage in an interactive learning environment.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Ask them their strengths and weaknesses of the subject.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Practice, practice, practice. Practice builds confidence, and confidence creates independence.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Again, to practice. Also, make the subject fun.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Teach different methods. Some traditional methods don't stick with some people, and some do.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Highlight important points while reading and taking notes. Be aware of what you are saying rather than speed reading. Also, stopping between certain paragraphs to gain validation of the concept is helpful.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Visual learning.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Get them excited by making complex problems simple. Subjects are more engaging when you understand them.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Visuals tools and outside resources. Study guides, practice problems, and tutorial videos.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Don't bring them down or make them feel stupid. Confidence is built through reassurance of one's own ability.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Ask them many questions about their learning style, strengths, and weaknesses.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

The key is listening.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Pencil, colored pens, paper, laptop for course-related information and videos, visual handouts, flashcards, etc. It depends on the student's needs.
