I have been teaching math for the past three years at the high school level. I love working with students and helping to break down difficult math concepts into smaller, easier pieces. With my two left feet, athletics has never been my strong suit but I love going to games. I'm really into arts and crafts, and I love to draw and sketch. I'm very easy going and would love to help you feel more comfortable and confident in your math class. I'll help with homework, test prep, or go over older material you never really understood, whatever I can do to help you be successful!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I'd like to get to know you a bit before we get going, and answer any questions you have about me. Then, I'd ask where you feel you need the most help in your class. From there, we can work on a current assignment or catch up on older material, whichever suits your needs best!
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I believe helping students figure out how to find their own answers rather than providing answers is the best way to help them become more self-reliant. I also like to show students how they can check their own work for when they are working independently.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would break that concept down into smaller pieces that I know the student already understands. Or, I would try another method to achieve the same answer, sometimes using a different process makes a problem seem much easier.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I like having a student explain a problem as they work through it. If they can explain what they are doing step-by-step, I know they've got it.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I prefer using the students' materials from their classroom so that it is most adapted to their school and program. However, I also pull in my own classroom materials and example questions.
