Certified Tutor
Teaching is something for which I have a great passion. Despite being a recent graduate, I have ten years of experience working with and teaching children. Being able to work with them one on one is some of the most rewarding and most enjoyable experiences I have had in my teaching experiences. Students will often need that extra help that they are not able to get in a school with a larger classroom. Making connections with the students is something I have done with success during my time leading classes at church as well as during my student teaching experience. This is an important aspect of teaching because gaining the trust and respect of your students goes a long way towards educational success. They need to know that you care about not only their education but their well being, too.
Being able to receive one on one instruction can have a major benefit and provide improvements in all subject areas. It will boost confidence as they improve, and as this happens, their attitude and outlook will also improve. It is also helpful to have a new set of eyes and a new perspective for the student that is different from their current classroom or teacher. I will provide a positive experience for all students and help them to see learning can also be fun. My commitment is not only to improve their skills in various subjects but to also improve their confidence and desire for learning.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student can learn, and learning can be fun. I believe in creating a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere for learning success.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
The first session is all about getting to know the student. What they like and don't like. Learning their strengths, and where they need to improve.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
One of t
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
The first part is to build up their confidence, and then connect the subject with things they have interest in. This will help them to have a better interest in the subject.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Start with small steps and build on them. Give them positive re-enforcement when they are making progress and encourage them to keep working hard.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
This starts with getting to know the student, as each student is going to be different and have different needs. The more you know about their strengths and needs, the better you can adapt to the material to suit them the best.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
The best way is to have a variety of approaches. There is always more than one way to look at a problem or subject. Sometimes it just takes a different way of looking at it for it to click.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Creating a relaxed setting and getting to know the student goes a long way towards improving education in and out of the classroom.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
This would depend upon the subject, but extra practice is always important, as well as having them answer questions and explain things in their own words.
