The student and I worked through a mixed review that he had been assigned. We spent time discussing problems dealing with balancing an equation involving fractions. Overall, it was a good session and the student was able to complete her worksheet with time left over to review the substitution method for a system of equations.

The student and I went over combining functions. We went over the notation for plugging one function into another. We developed a routine for addressing the notation of these problems by writing them out and drawing arrows, so that the problems are made simpler with a visual. We went over the concept of domain as well as some of the notation associated with it. We went over the cases when a function does not exist, and its implications for the domain of the function. Most of our time was spent going through homework problems.

Tutoring review by Ari in Darby, PA
In this lesson, we reviewed for the student's upcoming exam. We reviewed integration by parts, going over the different types of patterns in the integration problems and the thought process for determining what to set as u and v. We also looked at partial fraction decomposition, and encountered the necessity of having the degree of the numerator be strictly less than the degree of the denominator. In addition, we reviewed trig substitution, figuring out when to let x = a*tan(theta),a*sin(theta), and a*sec(theta), and any manipulation that has to be done in order to figure out what a should be. Lastly, we worked on integrals of functions that can be written as products of powers of sin and cos, or tan and sec, cot and cdc and how to handle each of those. I think with some more practice on her own, she will be in good shape for the exam.

Today's session was focused on reviewing for the student's final exam on Wednesday. First, we briefly went over her Chapter 10 and 11 exam, which she did well on. We went over several problems that she will clarify with her teacher tomorrow. Next, we reviewed problems from sections 9.5-9.6 and 11.1-11.3, as well as various homework from other chapters that she had questions on. She appears very well prepared for her exam, and I'm confident that she will do well!

Tutoring review by Lynne in Darby, PA
The student worked on graphing polynomials by determining their end behavior, x-intercepts, y-intercepts, and zeros. We also found the leading coefficient and the equation of the polynomial based on the graph. The final problems dealt with synthetic division - finding the remaining zeroes of the polynomial, given one zero, and then completely factoring the polynomial. In these problems, multiplicity was also discussed and how that affects the graph. We went through quite a few sections of her assignment, but she had completed some of the problems in the sections earlier on her own. For these particular assignments, I feel that she has a good handle on the material.
