Houston German Tutoring FAQ

If you are looking for a teacher to guide you or a student in your family in learning German, 大象传媒 can find you an experienced Houston German tutor. Studying a foreign language can be fun, but it can also be full of challenges that slow down your progress. Houston German tutoring provides access to expert and patient private instructors who can provide the support you need in your studies.

How can a Houston German tutor near me help me work towards fluency?

There are many aspects of the German language that can be difficult to learn for English speakers. German uses gendered nouns (masculine, feminine, and neuter) and they inflect depending on the case (nominative, accusative, genitive, and dative) and number (singular, plural). Sentence structure in German where the main verb should always be the second part of the sentence can also be confusing for English speakers.

Learning German can be easier when you work with Houston German tutors. You'll study in a one-on-one academic setting where you can ask your questions about German grammar, sentence structure, nouns, and cases directly to your instructor and get immediate answers and detailed explanations. Having an expert teacher you can consult with every time you encounter roadblocks in your studies can help you progress faster since you don't need to slow down to search for answers on your own. Your teacher can work with you on exercises that could sharpen your German language skills and help you feel more confident in using the language.

Another benefit of Houston German tutoring is that your teacher can adjust their teaching methods depending on how you naturally learn new concepts. If you're a visual learner, for instance, your teacher can show you how to create and use mind maps in order to easily remember German nouns and their corresponding article. You can also use colored charts or tables to learn German tenses and verb conjugation. If you or your student is an auditory learner, your teacher might ask you to listen to a conversation containing useful German vocabulary and expressions instead of just having you read them from a list. They can then engage you in a conversation so you can repeat the words until they become part of your working vocabulary.

How can I fit time with Houston German tutors into my schedule?

If you've been having a hard time finding a German class that fits your schedule, private instruction can be the solution to your problem. We consider your scheduling requirements and do our best to find a qualified teacher who can meet you or your student when it's most convenient for your schedule.

You can choose between online lessons or in-person instruction. Online lessons take away the hassles of commuting to a physical location, so this is perfect if you have a jam-packed schedule and can't set aside extra time for traveling. All you need is a reliable internet connection so you can log into our Live Learning Platform where you'll meet your instructor. The platform has a video chat feature, a virtual whiteboard, and a document editor you and your teacher can use when studying different topics about the German language such as pronunciation, prepositions, and even German history and culture. You can watch recordings of your previous sessions if you need to review a grammar point or forgot an important study tip your teacher discussed in one of your lessons.

In-person lessons can provide flexibility since you can set the time and place where you want to meet your instructor. You can study in the comfort of your home, at a café near your workplace, or at public libraries such as the Looscan Neighborhood Library or the Lanier Theological Library.

You can combine private lessons with our online German courses. We offer a wide range of course times with new sections that start every month, so you can easily fit a course into your hectic schedule. Lessons take place in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Plus, there are weekend courses if you are not able to squeeze a course time on weekdays.

Our session was very effective and productive today. We continued working on conversation and learning new expressions and vocabulary. The student is still struggling with memorizing but is very eager to learn more in order to be able to speak and understand German.

German Tutoring review by Charles in Houston, TX
Once again, the student and I started the lesson going over parts of speech. We took headlines from a newspaper and diagrammed them. The easier examples I let him attempt on his own, the harder stuff I guided him through. He seems to be making progress. The latter half of the lesson consisted of the conversational work we had covered last lesson. He is slow to grasp word order and conjugation, and he seems unused to the kind of work I request of him, despite his prior exposure to Latin and Spanish. Memorizing vocabulary, particularly nouns, is his strength. I may emphasize next lesson that we will stop "translating" for a bit, and just learn stock phrases.

German Tutoring review by Samuel in Houston, TX
Today, we began by reviewing the body parts in German. Then, we progressed to discussing the names of the different animals the student had on his cards and organizing them first by whether they were big or small, then by whether they ate grass or not, and then whether they swam or not. The student uttered his first sentences today in German saying: The sheep eats grass. The horse eats grass. The fish swims. The mouse does not swim. After this, we went over the sounds in the German language. Then, we read some more out of his books and acted out the verbs we read in the books. We then repeated what we learned with the body parts, animals and verbs to wrap up the lesson.

German Tutoring review by Anna in Houston, TX
The student and I reviewed the possessive adjectives and verb conjugation worksheets she did for homework. We also did a translation exercise, since her main objective is reading comprehension. We'll be touching base with each other this week when our copies to come in to determine a "homework" assignment for our next meeting.

German Tutoring review by William in Houston, TX
I worked with the student primarily on prepositions, and then I started introducing certain expressions that take accusative prepositions (and also have reflexive verbs). Verbs with separable prefixes are also something we have to work on. The student definitely gets the concepts, such as 2-way prepositions, however, he still needs practice. I think one more session regarding prepositions will be necessary. However, in the next session I want to make sure that we cover more about verbs with separable prefixes. Also, he seems to get the basics about putting verbs in the past tense, but there is still a lot more to learn.
