Some of the information provided to you may not be relevant at all, so don't assume that everything is useful just because it appears on the test! You have a total of 62 minutes to answer 31 multiple-choice questions on this section of the exam, and it's scored on the same scale as the Verbal Reasoning section.

Integrated Reasoning

The Integrated Reasoning section measures how well you can incorporate academic knowledge in practical problem-solving situations. There are four types of questions on this section: two-part analysis, multi-source reasoning, graphic interpretations, and table analysis. Two-part analysis problems require you to solve simultaneous equations or quantify trade-offs. Multi-source reasoning problems require the use of graphs, raw data, and textual sources of information in order to arrive at an answer. Graphic interpretations remember how well you can read different types of charts and graphs. Table analysis items measure how well you can work with spreadsheets on a computer. You have a total of 30 minutes to answer 12 multiple-choice questions, most of which demand more than one response. This section is scored on a scale from 1-8.

Analytical Writing Assessment

The Analytical Writing Assessment is a 30-minute essay requiring you to analyze an argument. This section serves to measure your communication and critical thinking skills. You could end up writing about anything, so it measures your ability to think on your feet as well. Fortunately, you're not expected to provide any prior knowledge in your response. Instead, your essay is scored on a scale from 0-6 based on factors such as topical analysis, organization, argumentation, syntactic variety, and how well you use the argument in your own analysis. It is highly recommended that you compose an outline for your essay, as 30 minutes really isn't that much time to plan and execute an effective piece of writing.
