Born and raised in rural northern Canada, I originally studied psychology at college, as I was fascinated by the why and how of people's thoughts and personalities. This naturally led to me education: first training as a teacher of ESL and working in both Canada and Japan, then later as a computer instructor for adults in the professional sphere. Even my work as a Japanese to English translator had regular teaching opportunities, to explain to creators and writers why certain conventions were used to translate their works into English. Since becoming an accountant in 2018 and a CPA in 2022, every position I've held has taken on an element of education, be it onboarding new staff, leading classes in accounting theory, or training on tax law at the Canadian Revenue Agency. To me, helping expand people's understanding of the world is an enriching, satisfying task, whether for the humblest conjugation of a Japanese verb to the most overarching principle of financial accounting.
