My experience in education/ special education has been in-grained within me from a very young age when I realized my older brother had a developmental disability. I started as a special education teacher and then as a school administrator in all areas of education (public, private, residential, and charter.) My experience working with students with special needs , include Co-Teaching, Resource Room, Small Class, 1:1). I have worked with students with the Wilson Reading Program, Assistive Technology, and different strategies ( to name a few). I received my Doctor of Education Degree from Grand Canyon University in Organizational Leadership with an Emphasis in Special Education. I have tutored organizational skills, time management, study skills, executive functioning, and elementary reading and math. My teaching philosophy believing ALL students can learn along side their typical developing peers, when given the appropriate tools. My style of teaching s that I always begin with a positive aspect of the student learning and work towards understanding their goals.

Hobbies

Reading, crocheting, dog sitting, and spending time with my grandchildren. I really love to volunteer with the International organization, The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) . I serve as vice president in the North Carolina CEC subdivision Division for Learning Disabilities (DLD) as well as the president-elect of the Division of Autism and Developmental Disabilities. This organization supports parents, students, & educators with evidence base research and practices for the classroom and home.
