I like to tutor and teach because I love to learn, and truly enjoy helping others do so. As a cum laude graduate, I am well aware that hard work pays off. I also know that it is important to recognize when you need extra support in a particular subject or course, and even more important to pursue that help.
I have tutored for the past 7 years at levels ranging from middle school to college. Additionally, I have been a high school teacher of both Spanish and French for the past 2 years. I am trained in foreign language pedagogy and know how students can best acquire foreign languages, and I have spent time implementing successful approaches on a classroom scale. My love for languages started long ago, and I really enjoy helping others to learn them. In college, I studied for a semester in the south of Spain and lived with a family there. It was there that I learned the true power of being able to communicate in foreign languages.
Whatever your goals may be - whether it's improving your grades in a course, or learning for travel - I will be more than able to help you reach them.
Additionally, I tutor for LSAT preparation. On the October 2015 exam, I scored a 167 (94th percentile) and am confident that I can help you reach your test goals. A higher score leads to better schools and more scholarships, so every point counts!

What is your teaching philosophy?
Each student has different goals, interests, and learning styles. These three factors should serve as the backbone of an individualized learning plan crafted specifically for each student.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
The first session generally entails getting to know the student (hobbies, interests, etc.) so that I can better create a specific learning plan. Diagnostic activities are also done to measure students' strengths and weaknesses.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By having students do their own work and finding the answers to their own questions, I seek to serve as a facilitator, ensuring that students become independent learners.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Incorporating students' interests and hobbies into lessons can help them stay motivated. Also, more interactive activities like conversations and videos help keep motivation high.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
First, we'll take a look at the concept in a real-world context. Afterward, we can break the concept down and compare it to English-language equivalents, which can serve as "anchors" in students' minds.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I always use guided reading activities that pair with readings. These activities help to build interest in the topic, learn vocabulary, and understand the content of each reading.
