Leon
Certified Tutor
I am excited about the chance to be a tutor with ý. I have two years of experience as a full time English teacher in South Korea, where I worked with elementary and middle school students. I was also an independent tutor for six months in Australia. I have a bachelors degree in Political Science, and a Master degree in Law and Diplomacy, so I am able to help students with history, political science, or other social science courses. In addition, I have years of ESL experience, and have a TESOL certificate certifying my professional skills in teaching English. In addition, I am a published author, and was a Senior Editor for the Fletcher Security Review, so I would be happy to help with any writing or editing tasks. Lastly, I have taken the SAT and GRE and scored in the top 5% on both verbal sections, and received a perfect score of a 6 on the GRE writing test, so I would be happy to help anyone prepare for those tests as well.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that each student already has the capability to succeed. My job as a tutor is to help by giving feedback, tools, and organizational structures to ensure that each student reaches their potential.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
During a first session, I think it is important to talk to the student and establish goals to work towards. Also, to create a study plan so that both the tutor and student have a clear idea of the goals and the methods that will be used.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I believe that it is not the tutor's job to do the student's work for them, but to give the students the tools, support, and organization to succeed on their own.
