An alumni of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) and Clark University. I received my bachelor's in Public Health Education from SIUE in 2011 and my master's in Community Development and Planning from Clark in 2013. I was fortunate enough to travel to Spain and Ecuador for study abroad trips to fine tune my Spanish speaking skills. In 2011, I also traveled to Ghana West Africa for my internship before graduating. I have worked with a variety of age groups and cultural backgrounds during my time as both a student and tutor. In the tutoring realm, I worked for a semester as a Spanish teacher for 1st and 2nd grade students in Southern Illinois, and for one year as a writing tutor with adult ESL students in Massachusetts.
My philosophy is that education is a life long process and we as individuals do not all share the same style of learning. Having been a visitor to countries with a culture and language different from the one I am used to, I have been in many situations where I faced things completely unknown to me. I faced difficulties in learning new things and it helped me be patient with the process of learning. I realize that learning and education can be challenging, but even more so it can be so rewarding. I want the students I work with to know that I've been there, in situations where learning something new may be challenging, and I am excited to be a part of that learning process with them.
Outside of work, you can find me checking out boat loads of new music. I like to go to concerts at small music venues and get my kayak on a river or lake somewhere when the sun is shining. I volunteer with a local cat shelter and have never been so happy to be covered in fur. I love to take pictures and capture candid moments. You might also find me in my car on a road trip to somewhere new at any chance I get.
