Certified Tutor
I recently earned a Master’s of Public Administration from Columbia University in New York. I chose to do a one-year intensive program in Environmental Science & Policy to get the most out of my time in graduate school and immerse myself in my classes, the university, and the city.
Previously, I graduated from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Science in both Environmental Studies and Geology. I am a PADI certified Divemaster and I’ve been scuba diving all over the world. I have spent time working with special needs children and doing scientific research in labs and in the field. Throughout my education I have been a well-rounded student in sciences and the humanities because of my patience in problem solving and because I utilize different study methods for different material.
I have experience working with a wide range of students from elementary school to college students to adult learners. The best part of tutoring for me is when a student truly begins to enjoy a subject that they initially found difficult. I love when students recognize their own progress and begin to feel very comfortable with things that were once very intimidating.
I tutor many subjects from Reading and Math to Spanish and Geography and Environmental Science. I enjoy explaining complex ideas in a clear and easy to understand manner, and tailoring my tutoring style to the students’ needs. I think the biggest key to helping someone reach their goals is understanding their true motivation, and showing them that they can get to where they want to go is my passion.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My approach to teaching an individual is to understand the needs and motives of the student. This will allow me to target my teaching method and tools to help them make the best improvements and reach the goal they want to achieve.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session, I ask the student what they are trying to do and why. From this, I can better understand how to help them specifically. I find that an individual's motivation is one of the biggest deciding factors in their success, so knowing what is motivating a student to seek tutoring is very important.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
A student can become an independent learner by fully understanding the goal they are trying to reach and the steps that it will take, as well as having the right tools (which include an approachable tutor they can use as a resource).
