IB History HL Tutoring FAQ

International Baccalaureate History HL challenges its students to gain and retain detailed knowledge about large spans of history. It also requires them to compare, contrast, and synthesize these details into a comprehensive and global big picture. In such a class, students are presented with an amount of information that can be absolutely overwhelming to anyone who does not approach it in a structured fashion. Additionally, while the course and its internal assessments are difficult enough, the class is capped with a cumulative final exam that puts students' skills and knowledge to the test.

Apprehension and stress can strike a student at any point throughout such a course. If you find yourself struggling to keep up with the pace of your class, you may want to seek guidance from a knowledgeable professional. A tutor can help you prepare for upcoming tests and help you understand the content as a whole. While you may think that assistance specifically dedicated to IB classes may be relatively rare, ΄σΟσ΄«Γ½ can help you connect with superb IB History HL tutors nationwide who can provide you with personalized instruction aimed at bolstering your knowledge and preparing you to overcome the obstacles you're facing.

Tonight, the student and I continued to review for the test in Georgia history. We continued with the short multiple-choice quizzes over various historical topics. After each quiz, we discussed the items that were incorrect and why they were wrong. The topics covered: reconstruction and segregation, the amendments to the Constitution, Georgia at the start of the 20th century, and World War II. I also gave her additional review packets to study. These packets look at each of the standards to be tested on the test and gives explanation and examples. We will discuss these over the next two weeks in preparation for the exam.

Today, we spent most of the session completing lesson B213, Women's role in Gov't. Today's activity was to write an essay on a political article from CNN.com. She did a good job completing the assignment. We then had a few minutes left to begin English Lesson 26.

We covered Lessons 1 and 2 of the chapter on Monday, so we concluded the chapter by going through Lesson 3 on Tuesday. Lesson 3 covered the Depression and World War 2. We discussed what caused the Great Depression and so talked about the stock market, unemployment, and how these affected one's way of life. This discussion brought us into President FDR's New Deal and how this program really helped people get back on their feet. Then we got into World War 2. We discussed how the U.S. was bombed by Japan and how ultimately that event propelled the U.S. into WW2. We compared this to how the U.S. got involved in WW1. The student has a social studies test today, which is why we did back-to-back sessions. Next week she and I will be on a regular, once a week schedule.

Today was my first lesson with the student. After asking him some basic questions about his experiences with the standardized test, I gave him a 50 question practice test. For each question, I asked him his knowledge of the subject, helped explain things when necessary, then had him answer it. If his answer was incorrect, I helped explain the correct answer. If he gave the correct answer, I asked him to explain his answer. At the end of the session, I strongly suggested he review world history in particular (he struggled with that area the most) and have somebody do flash card exercises with him. Next week, I will have more practice questions for him.
