The student didn't have any homework this week besides her peacock project, so we worked on her activity workbook. This is a great workbook that I highly recommend because it has so many different types of activities, and changes up the regular school routine. We worked on greater than/less than, nouns, addition, reading comprehension, and many other second and third grade concepts. She did a good job today.

I mostly worked with the student today on her math homework, as well as her English homework. She is fantastic at spelling and quick recall on her English words. She's a joy and makes things really fun and playful. As far as math, she gets concepts very well. I also worked a bit with student 2 on his Math. He's very good at picking up patterns and seems to catch on quickly. Finally, his parents are an absolute joy to work with, and very kind hearted.

The student and I worked solving word problems with multiplication. We solved 6 out of 8 problems. She was able to read the problems and pull out the pertinent information but setting up the problem, initially, was a little challenging for her. Once she got the rhythm of what her problems should look like, with multiple representations, she was able to work on them herself. The only thing that seemed to be a little difficult for her was the one to one correspondence needed to solve larger counting problems. She would be one or two numbers less than the accurate answer. Comprehension/Accuracy/Fluency passage. She had three errors the first time and five errors the second reading. We really worked hard on her sounding out the three words that she struggled with (protect, medical, and volunteers) and slowing down to properly pronounce 'firefighters'. We had a great session today!

Online 2nd Grade Math Tutoring review by Jamie
The student initially showed some hesitance for reading but when I asked him to read from one of the readers I brought he jumped right in and did well. Before he started reading I asked him to try to make predictions about the story based on chapter titles in the table of contents, pictures, and even the story title. He is very bright and made great assumptions. I had him stop every couple of paragraphs to summarize the action which he did well with. We will need to work on fluency and prosody and continue to check for comprehension. We spent the majority of our time on math doing some initial exercises to assess his areas of need. I found that he has great number sense and an excellent grasp of place value. His knowledge of multiplication facts is above average for a 2nd grader, but there is room to grow. We looked at arrays and how multiplication can be viewed as repeated addition. Overall, the session went extremely well. He was a pleasant and enthusiastic learner.
